2016 Commencement Keynote
This year BMCC is proud to feature Tim Mabry of Hermiston as the Keynote Speaker.
Tim Mabry grew up in Pendleton, where his family moved to from St. Paul, Minn., in 1962. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1970. Tim attended BMCC from 1970-72, and served as student body president during the 1971-72 academic year. Following his 1972 graduation from BMCC, Tim earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Journalism at the University of Oregon in 1975. He has worked as a respected insurance agent and realtor in northeastern Oregon since 1977, and purchased Credits, Inc., with his wife, Nancy, in 1990. The couple of 42 years have lived in Hermiston since 1976. They have two grown children and three grandchildren. Tim has been an active member of the community, having served on the BMCC Board of Education from 1978-1986 and the BMCC Foundation Board from 1998-2005. He has also served on the boards of directors for the Umatilla County Fair, Pendleton and Hermiston chambers of commerce, Pendleton Rotary Club, Inland Empire Bank, Umatilla County Historical Society, Pendleton Round-Up, and Pendleton Academies. He was also elected as a Port of Umatilla Commissioner from 2002-2015, and currently serves as the director of the Oregon Community Foundation, a position he’s held since 2010.
"In so far as the influence of BMCC on my life, it has been profound," Mabry says. "As well as giving me an education that allowed me to continue with my higher education, it gave me an opportunity to participate. It gave me the opportunity to become more than 'just a student' and broaden my horizons with wealth of experiences that changed my life. A person develops a lot of affiliations through a lifetime, but in the realm of education, I cannot think of a stronger one for me, than BMCC."
